Better late than never....back again my annual draft review/Love Hate writeup. This year I'll do two words about each team, a grade (A,B,C,etc.), and a Love/Hate
Berg Unit - Jordan Westerberg
2 words: very meh
Grade B
Love: Deandre Hopkins should continue his high level production with his move to the wide open scheme in Arizona. Dak is a QB playing for a contract right now so I think he has a lot of upside this year.
Hate: I think I'm out on Saquan Barkely being a good fantasy RB....in theory he should be a stud but his YPC has been very low recently and I don't think the Giants O-line got that much better than last year.
The Watchdogs - Jacob Nolton
2 words: dog shit
Grade: C
Love: Ekeler is a good player who will get a lot of touches as a runner and a receiver. Kareem Hunt has interesting upside this year since it appears the Browns are going to get him involved.
Hate: David Johnson is old and slow and the Texans overpaid for him. Neither starting WR are the #1 WR on their team. I think there are 3-4 QBs available via free agency who are better than Daniel Jones.
Percy Whipped - Evan Schurman
2 words: playoff return?
Grade: A-
Love: I got the highest scoring WR in the league at pick 5 which I think really good value. Between AJ Brown and the rest of my WRs I feel like I have the best WR corp in the league. Risk/reward at my RBs.
Hate: TE is mediocre at best. No guarantees with any of my RBs, as all either are in a time share or have injury history.
Kerryon My Wayward Son - Andrew Rosacker
2 words: feels random
Grade: B-
Love: Kenyan Drake was good once he got to AZ last year, but will that repeat? Andrew has to hope he keeps up that pace. I think the Steelers DEF could be really solid this year given their schedule and stars at multiple levels.
Hate: I don't like Wisconsin RBs in the NFL and my feeling with Jonathan Taylor is no different. Amari Cooper is good but he has a lot of competition for targets in Dallas now. I just don't see a star on this team.
Super Cyaiyan - Alex Spooner & Cole Anderson
2 words: young guns
Grade: A-
Love: Interesting team here with Godwin being the best guy in my eyes. Godwin has upside with Brady and with some early injury concerns with Mike Evans. Murray has a lot upside with this rushing yardage potential but have to wonder if he has a Baker Mayfield sophomore slump.
Hate: I don't like Alvin Kamara b/c he isn't really an every down back but you have to pick him in the first round. I don't think Kamara has been the same player since his rookie season.
Just Me and My Scrubs - Zach Frederick
2 words: high ceiling
Grade: A
Love: Hard to not love this draft with however many picks in the top 30. Frankly this team has the best QB and RB in the league on it with Mahomes and CMC. I like the value in McLaurin as he is the primary pass catcher in Washington.
Hate: I don't think Diggs will have as much success in Buffalo b/c Josh Allen is not accurate. Mike Evans is already an injury concern and is Nick Chubb going to lose a lot of carries to Kareem Hunt (it may not matter if they are as run heavy as their new HC likes to be).
Team Oak - Zeke Kasper
2 words: team sucks
Grade: C-
Love: I'll start by saying this isn't as bad as I thought it might be.... That being said, there aren't any sure things on this team whatsoever. I like Justin Jefferson from a dynasty upside stand point but I don't think he's putting up huge numbers this year. Jarwin seems like an decent upside guy as Dak has liked to use his TEs.
Hate: Are any of these RBs or WRs a sure fire #1 on their own team, let alone from a fantasy perspective? Would need everything to break right to sniff the playoffs.
Bad Dream Team - Tony Bartleson
2 words: simply solid
Grade: B
Love: Davante Adams and Travis Kelce kick off this roster really nicely being top 2-3 guys at their position. Ravens DEF should be really solid this year and they will benefit from their offensive scheme which typically can maintain long drives and stay on the field.
Hate: I'm not a Josh Allen or Carson Wentz guy so I'm not sold on these QBs. I had Chris Carson last year and he is a roller coaster at best given Seattle's RB committee approach. I don't like having multiple Bills and Seahawks on a roster as neither team seems to feed stars the ball.
Clipped Tongues - Chelsea Frederick
2 words: football players
Grade: B
Love: Parker and Fuller aren't well known guys but you have to think they'll get targets being the top WRs on their respective teams. Chelsea should hope that both the Dolphins and Texans are throwing while trailing a lot this year.
Hate: When did Miles Sanders become a 1st round draft pick? We haven't seen an Eagles RB be a fantasy stud since Shady McCoy. Ingram seems to be on the downhill side of his career and he's in a big time share now. The theme of this team to me is really good football players, but not fantasy studs...thinking of Jimmy G, Kittle, and Ingram here.
Cam You Dig It Sucka - Alex Johnson
2 words: Rushing Points
Grade: A
Love: Lamar, Zeke, and Derrick Henry is pretty scary for one team to have. Should have a ton of rushing points here. Both WRs are #1s on their teams and I like the upside with Ebron in Pitt.
Hate: Allen Robinson is a number 1 WR but his QB is Mitch Trubisky so not sure he's really a #1. This bench is filled with risk/reward WRs and handcuff RBs which could be a waste if none hit.
Aaron It Out - Travis Bryant
2 words: speed kills
Grade: B
Love: This WR really represents the modern NFL WRs where they present more speed than size, which I like from a PPR and big play TD standpoint. I've been saying Drew Brees is going to be bad this year for like 3 years and I've been wrong...so I'll say he'll still be good this year.
Hate: 3 years ago I would have loved this RB tandem but now they scare me. Leveon Bell was bad last year and I don't know when Jordan Howard was last good? I don't see much RB help on the bench either.
Nolton Sucks - Andrew Montgomery
2 words: too hyped?
Grade: B+
Love: Aaron Jones is good and I hate that I have to admit it. He will again score a lot fantasy points b/c he touches the ball a ton. I've been team Tyler Lockett for a while so I like that value even though he is a bit boom or bust week to week.
Hate: I'm just not on the Clyde Edwards Helaire hype train. I don't think he's an every down back and the Chiefs like to spread the ball around. Aaron Rodgers is more hype than fantasy production at this point so I think he's over valued here. Kupp is good but I don't believe he's ever finished a season healthy.
Barts Bottom Feeders - Stephen Bartleson
2 words: Name Team
Grade: B
Love: Deshaun Watson is a stud and some would consider him an MVP contender this year so he's worth the spot he was picked. Cook and Thielen should be the Vikings offense this year but have to worry about injury (both) and contract risk (Cook).
Hate: I'm out on the Bucs this year so that makes me feel like Fournette and Gronk are not going to be that productive week to week. I'm also still down on OBJ b/c he hasn't really produced in what seems like 3 years. Another team that has a lot of good football players but not great fantasy players.
Smoking Backwoods - Angelo Zaldarriaga
2 words: Perfectly Average
Grade: B
Love: I have a suspicion that the Falcons are in for a bounce back year so I can get on board with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. Josh Jacobs is going to get a lot of touches in Vegas so he should be consistent all year as a workhorse. Of course Keenan Allen is on this team...and he's always pretty good.
Hate: I don't like taking a Tampa Bay RB as they have like 15 of them and no one knows who will actually play. Nothing about this team really got me too excited though, hence the perfectly average statement.
